Every Saturday we play a game of netball. We all play against other schools. We have six players on the court from each team. Then the whistle blows and the game begins. It takes a lot of passes to get the ball to the shooter. The shooter shoots the ball with the defenders trying to distract her. That is how you play netball.
We started well because we had the ball first. We scored lots of goals because we made a lot of intercepts. At the end we celebrated because we won 13 to 5.
Last week Kaelib and Calvin went to the Nursery. In the Nursery we helped Ruth pull out weeds and carrots. We put the weeds in the wheelbarrow and we put the carrots in the bucket. Then we washed them under the tap. After that we dug up the compost and put the compost in the compost bin.
At the start of the game I was very nervous and so was Matt . I was not on at first but Matthew was. He played goal keep. We were facing Hiwinui school and we played at Hiwinui school. Angus and George played defence. In the mid-field was Bryceen Mitchell and Luca. Max was the striker and Matthew was in the goal. As soon as the whistle blew the game was on. They kicked off. Hiwinui got past Max and then nearly scored a goal. It was close game the score was 2 - 1 but a goal was disallowed, so it was a draw.
We had the special privilege of having Karl Lowe as a guest speaker for the day. Karl Lowe is a rugby player who has played for the Hawkes Bay Magpies, and the famous Wellington Hurricanes. His highest achievement in rugby is making the Junior All Blacks.
Room L welcomed Karl and his younger brother Jacob with a hearty Haka 'Ka Mate'. Then we sang 'I believe I can fly' by R. Kelly. He said it was "awesome!!"
Some of the things that I liked about Karl's talk was that his mum brought him up byhaving goals, working hard, having dreams [his dream was to be an All Black] and although he hasn't made it yet he hopes to one day.
If you want to see the full interview then you can press play below. ps. sorry about the heater banging in the background.
Yummy! Remember there is a sausage sizzle on Wednesday. So if you would like to have one for your lunch you have to order it by Tuesday 9:00. The cost is $1.00.
On Saturday Q-Bear watched Jamie play rugby. Then Layton came to stay the night. We had fish,in,chips for tea.On Sunday we watched Haydon play under eleven reps rugby. They lost twenty to seventeen, but he played really well. In the afternoon we all went riding under the bridge in Bulls. That was cool! Our dog Jake had fun as well. Q-Bear went for a ride on Jamie's motorbike. I think he had fun. Then we had to go home. It was a cool day.
We had the best time on Enviro Day. Our biggest project for the day was our class garden. Here is a poem that shows some of our feelings of the day.
We hacked and pulled, stacked and filled, wheelbarrows, buckets and holes. We dug and squealed, cut and wheeled more new plants into our garden. When it was done we admitted it was fun, working to care for our "Mother Earth" so dear.
Yes! Karl Lowe has made it into the Junior All Blacks! He was named in the Squad at 2pm on the rugby channel. Wow we finally have the winners of Britain's got Talent. Congratulations Diversity what an inspiration to all young people around the world who are desirous of following their dreams and realizing them. If you think that someone else should have won then leave a comment and tell me who.
On Thursday afternoon we got the opportunity to listen to the Story Teller. He had incredible stories to share and he made amazing music to listen to. What a joy to have this traveler share his treasures with us.
It was a muddy wet day but rugby was the winner. Every Saturday at Victoria park we play rugby from 9 o'clock until 10 o'clock. Jamie's team, which is Taranaki had a good win. Their score was 20-3. Layton's team, which is Counties won 19-6. What a day I love playing rugby and we get to do it all again this weekend.

We have a new an exciting endeavour that we are embarking on. This week Room L's cross grouped maths class are beginning the trial of Mathletics. This is an interactive maths site that motivates children to learn, practise and reinforce their mathematical learning. This website is very child friendly and best of all it can be accessed from any terminal that has an internet connection. The trial will be for 14 days and we will evaluate the children's learning thereafter. So parents it would be good if you can jump onto the site with your child and check out what they are doing. Just a note, all the children that are registered for the trial have their own username and password. Have fun!
This is a photo of a couple of lads during our buddy class time. Here we learn to share and build relationships with others. If you look really closely you can read what the text says, it says "this is me and my mate during buddy time". Click on the link above if you want to have a go. First you need to upload a photo onto "flickr" and then get the URL address from that to put onto the textorize site. Have fun!
Welcome to the first weekend of the holidays. I have sent home a brief notice about the kids connecting to the internet and especially their blogs. However we still need to take care of the kids use of the internet to protect them. I have posted a video that has a few tips (click on the title above)that will help keep the kids safe while surfing. I will monitor the kids blogs to ensure that there is good wholesome postings.
During the holiday period try to encourage the children to write stories on their blog. It can either be a retell of an experience or an imaginary story, it's quite ok.
One of the ICT skills we are learning in Room L is how to touch type. We have downloaded a typing programme from the internet to use on the class computers. I encourage the children to practise this skill at home during their time as this will speed up their publishing time on the computer and I believe benefit them in their future.
To go to the site where you can download the programme click on the title above "Typing programme" and choose which operating system matches yours eg. PC or Mac.
